IOMI® Certified Office Mover® Course
November 3-6, 2015
November 3-6, 2015 HOUSTON, TX — Texas is known for many things: chili, the Dallas Cowboys, NASA, peanut brittle, the Alamo and, of course, barbecue. Smoked meat is such a Lone Star State institution that in 1964 President and Texas native Lyndon B. Johnson hosted what is generally considered the first barbecue state dinner in the history of the United States. While barbecue fans like to debate the merits of various sauces, Texans consider those nothing more than ‘side dips.’ What matters to them is the meat—substance over sauce.
“Substance” was a key theme at KC Salley Relocation’s recent IOMI® Certified Office Mover® training, held November 3-6, 2015, at KC Salley’s Houston office. President Bryan Oler and General Manager Blake Oler wanted the intense training to prepare them to take their company to a new level of safety and excellence.
Leading by example and with a rare combination of passion and energy, the brothers are continuing KC Salley’s impeccable 60-year reputation as residential movers and corporate relocation experts in the Houston, Katy and Sugarland, Texas, areas. Instructor Ed Katz taught KC Salley’s employees IOMI®’s best practice methods to estimate accurately, ensure their moves finish on time for the price quoted, and—most important—with a minimum risk of damage to their clients’ furniture, computers, office space, or to the KC Salley staff who handle the moves.
To ensure they provide a consistently high level of service, the company also signed up for IOMI®’s online seminar, which provides unlimited ongoing training for all of their employees, including those who do the actual moves.
Given their relentless pursuit of excellence and dedication to customer service, it’s no wonder that customers interviewed by IOMI® during KC Salley’s annual customer appreciation barbeque had nothing but high praise for the company’s operation.
Attendee Comments
“This year, one of our largest clients tasked us with adopting their safety standards. IOMI® helped us change our commercial division’s focus to safety. Now, from inception to completion, safety is our primary thrust. IOMI®’s number one goal is to make sure that neither the movers nor the clients get hurt during a move. The seminar led by Ed Katz was effective in training our key managers, supervisor, foremen, and sales people. Coupled with the IOMI® online modules, our commercial division will continue to have formal and comprehensive safety training.” – Bryan Oler, General Manager
“I can’t get over how much of IOMI®’s best practices for minimizing the risk of injury and damage apply to residential moves, too.” – Gary Aug, Relocation Consultant
“What I like best about the IOMI® office moving seminar is that it provides clear communication between sales and operations. Safety is our top priority for our crews, customers, and general public. Since every IOMI® estimate includes a Scope of Services that clearly defines who is responsible for what, it makes it easy for crews to safely offer the services that are promised in the sales presentations. Even as we grow, we’ll still be able to follow these best practice methods since we’ll have ongoing training with our IOMI® online seminar.” – Blake Oler, Vice President
“I’ve taken this seminar three times in the past seven years. I can’t believe how much has changed, particularly the stronger focus on safety. IOMI®’s method for loading the moving truck is so much more efficient and safer than what we’ve done in the past, and the way we learned how to protect every monitor, printer and CPU is fantastic. The owners of the company and I are grateful that Ed Katz spent so much time teaching us better ways to reduce the chances of our employees or our clients getting hurt during a move.” – Rob Clark, Director, Commercial Division
“After 2.5 days of training, I am officially IOMI® certified and couldn’t be prouder of myself and more grateful to the man who trained me. He gave me tools I never would have thought to have used and amazing advice for growing professionally. I feel like I already owe so much of my future success to this astonishing man. Ed, you are a pioneer in our industry and an amazing role model!” – Andi Kirkland O’Toole, International Coordinator
The International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®) is not an alliance, a trade association, or a moving company, but an independent, unbiased office moving resource and training organization beholden to no one. We accept no advertising. The links from within our pages to other web sites are reciprocal.
For more than a decade, many in the moving industry and companies planning a move have come to rely on officemoves.com as a steadfast source of best practices. We advocate, and through the International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®), teach:
• Minimizing the risk of damage to walls, floors, doors and elevators during your move. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn the best practice methods for installing extensive building protection.
• Minimizing the risk of damage to furniture and computers during your move. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn the best-practice methods for wrapping every monitor, printer, CPU, server, and copier with two layers of anti-static bubble wrap (with the bubbles facing the bubbles) instead of pad-wrapping computers with filthy furniture pads.
• Timing is of the essence on your office move. If your mover doesn’t finish the job on time, it can cost your company thousands of dollars of nonproductive downtime. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn an estimating formula that’s based upon man-hours instead of the unreliable method typically used on household moves that’s based on weight.
The IOMI® proprietary estimating formula is uncannily accurate because it factors in not only volume but the unique logistics of both the building you’re moving from and to.
Why hire an IOMI®
Certified Office Mover®?
1. On time for the price quoted
One of the biggest complaints about movers is that they often badly underestimate the cost of a move and then don’t finish on time. An International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®)-trained mover learns a formula for accurately estimating cost. By calculating the number of trucks and movers for how long, IOMI® Certified Office Movers® can base estimates on man-hours, volume, and logistics, and not weight, which household movers typically use when quoting an office move. As a result, the chances of a move completing on time for the price quoted is greatly improved.
2. Minimize risk of damage
IOMI® Certified Office Movers® learn the latest techniques to minimize risk of damage to furniture and computers, and are trained in extensive building protection to minimize risk of damage to carpet, walls, doors, and door jambs.
3. Minimize downtime
There is a better way! IOMI® Certified Office Movers® understand that their customers can’t afford to shut down operations during a move, and are trained in techniques to keep client employees working. Many IOMI® graduates offer the “boxless” move — moving the contents in the furniture instead of the contents and the furniture.
