November 30th—December 4th, 2023, JK MOVING SERVICES, Sterling, VA

“JK,” in Sterling, VA, just completed another recertification training and field audit through the International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®). Chuck Kuhn, founder and CEO, and David Cox, President, of JK, intend to remain the very best in the commercial relocation business and are clearly focused on how to stay there. Both men believe IOMI ongoing training is the key to accomplishing that goal.
For the company’s 11th recertification training by Ed Katz of IOMI, they had all key personnel attend the 3-day in person training seminar. According to Nick Kloos, VP of Sales & Business Development, “It’s one of the reasons JK has the reputation of solving our customers’ worst relocation problems and nightmares. In our arsenal of services, we offer our “Boxless” Office Move, decommissioning of surplus furniture and electronics, record storage, relocating and servicing servers and other IT infrastructure components, and systems or modular furniture reconfiguration. We lead the moving industry by going to great lengths to minimize the risk of damage to computers, furniture, and office buildings.”

Mike Murphy, Director of Operations, leads by example with a rare combination of experience, passion, and energy. So, it’s no wonder customers interviewed during IOMI’s recent audit had nothing but high praise for JK.

Katz’s field audit process made a surprise visit to a huge ongoing move of hundreds of workstations being disassembled and moved to a new location to measure how well JK followed IOMI’s best-practice methods for minimizing the risk of damage to furniture, computers, and buildings. According to Katz, they achieved the highest score possible.

During his weeklong stay at JK, Katz learned that the spirit of giving doesn’t surface just at Christmas. It’s a year-round activity at JK that takes many forms.

In 2018, JK Moving Services launched the JK Community Farm to help those struggling with food insecurity, including children, senior citizens, families, and individuals in need. Located in Purcellville, VA, the 150-acre Farm is a 501(c)(3) that provides organic fruit, vegetables, and protein to area hunger relief programs and shelters. Katz was told that this year they harvested more than one million pounds of produce to be donated to the needy.

Madison, Mississippi, June 12, 2018—JK Moving Services of Sterling, Virginia, is our IOMI® “poster child” in the DC market for adopting and implementing all our IOMI® best practice methods. When Aaron Shaffer, operations manager for JK’s Commercial Division, pledged to protect lobby-side elevator entrances and main building office doors on every office move, he meant it. To prove JK “walks the talk,” JK Moving Services purchased every Mat-A-Door® set IOMI® had in its inventory—all 100 panels.
Thanks to JK, IOMI® will not be able to sell Mat-A-Doors® to moving companies until September 2018, when it (hopefully) replenishes its inventory. We are sorry if this delay causes any hardships to you.

The International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®) is not an alliance, a trade association, or a moving company, but an independent, unbiased office moving resource and training organization beholden to no one. We accept no advertising. The links from within our pages to other web sites are reciprocal.

For more than a decade, many in the moving industry and companies planning a move have come to rely on officemoves.com as a steadfast source of best practices. We advocate, and through the International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®), teach:

• Minimizing the risk of damage to walls, floors, doors and elevators during your move.
IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn the best practice methods for installing extensive building protection.

• Minimizing the risk of damage to furniture and computers during your move. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn the best-practice methods for wrapping every monitor, printer, CPU, server, and copier with two layers of anti-static bubble wrap (with the bubbles facing the bubbles) instead of pad-wrapping computers with filthy furniture pads.

• Timing is of the essence on your office move. If your mover doesn’t finish the job on time, it can cost your company thousands of dollars of nonproductive downtime. IOMI® Certified Office Movers® and Certified Project Managers® learn an estimating formula that’s based upon man-hours instead of the unreliable method typically used on household moves that’s based on weight.

The IOMI® proprietary estimating formula is uncannily accurate because it factors in not only volume but the unique logistics of both the building you’re moving from and to.

Why hire an IOMI®
Certified Office Mover®?

1. On time for the price quoted

One of the biggest complaints about movers is that they often badly underestimate the cost of a move and then don’t finish on time. An International Office Moving Institute (IOMI®)-trained mover learns a formula for accurately estimating cost. By calculating the number of trucks and movers for how long, IOMI® Certified Office Movers® can base estimates on man-hours, volume, and logistics, and not weight, which household movers typically use when quoting an office move. As a result, the chances of a move completing on time for the price quoted is greatly improved.

2. Minimize risk of damage

IOMI® Certified Office Movers® learn the latest techniques to minimize risk of damage to furniture and computers, and are trained in extensive building protection to minimize risk of damage to carpet, walls, doors, and door jambs.

3. Minimize downtime

There is a better way! IOMI® Certified Office Movers® understand that their customers can’t afford to shut down operations during a move, and are trained in techniques to keep client employees working. Many IOMI® graduates offer the “boxless” move — moving the contents in the furniture instead of the contents and the furniture.
